It finishes when it finishes

Cie Ioannis Mandafounis
Mise en scène/chorégraphie: Ioannis Mandafounis
Durée: 45 minutes

Lieu et année de création: L'Abri, Carouge – 2018

We all remember the tingling sensation from our childhood when we experienced a magic trick. A rabbit suddenly coming out of a hat or a woman being cut in half. With It Finishes When It Finishes, Ioannis Mandafounis and Corpus play with the perception of reality by performing magic on stage. The performance challenges the classical composition of a piece, and in a great fusion of movement and magic it explores our ability to distinguish between illusion and reality. It Finishes When It Finishes not only incorporates magic on the stage but also discovers the magic of the stage. In an attempt of redefining the methods that create what we call the magic of stage, Ioannis focuses on how to make readable the appearance of intention in a totally unstructured piece and to create the ground on witch instant creation of structure feels pre decided and written. In its core, It finishes when it finishes deals with contradictory elements. The dancers will be accompanied by the concert pianist Alison Smith who will play the spiritual and minimalistic piece “21 Ethiopics” composed by the Ethiopian nun, Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guébrou. With a classical approach, Guébrou uses original Ethiopian jazz tunes and creates her own unique musical language.
