The Municipal and Regional Theatre of Patras was founded in June 1988. It is subsidized by the Municipality of Patras and the Ministry of Culture and it is the biggest theatre organization in southwest Greece.
Its artistic programme includes dance theatre productions, performances for young audiences, co-productions with other theatres and presentation of productions to Greece’s most important festivals. It’s activity extends to multiple artistic and cultural sectors through the implementation of special projects, educational programmes, workshops for theatre practitioners and amateurs, organization of conferences, festivals, exhibitions, publications, etc, as one of the main objectives of the Theatre is the activation and the involvement of the local potential and the implementation of projects aimed for minority groups.
The Municipal and Regional theatre of Patras has collaborated with prominent artists and institutions such as the Hellenic Festival, the Patras Cultural Capital of Europe- 2006 organization, the University of Patras, etc.
The past years, the Theatre has presented many productions and co-productions, it has hosted numerous performances and concerts, organized dance festivals, ran educational programmes for the regional schools and the citizens. Furthermore, since November 2012 DI.PE.THE. Patras has been operating a Drama School.
